Promenade Home styling
- Boy raises his inside (left) hand (with the girl's inside hand in his) and the she twirls under
- Boy gives the girl a gental rotational push on her back with his outside hand to guide her to twirl C.W.
- Hold hand up after her first twirl to see if she will go for a second
- Lift the hand before reaching home to see if she will twirl a few times on the way - hand comes down after twirl at home
- Boy can spin around C.W. (to the right) after she completes her twirl, switching her left hand from his left hand to his right hand behind his back
- Together, Wheel Around (to the left) 1-1/4 at home
- Boy, hold the partner tight and begin the Wheel Around action just ahead of reaching home to clearly communicate that something different is happening
- Very nice flow if you can anticipate the next call will be 4 Ladies Chain
- If the caller calls to the other couple (e.g. Sides if you are heads) Wheel Around another full turn (or 2!) to use up time
- Together, Reverse Wheel Around (to the right) 3/4 at home
- Very nice flow if you can anticipate the next call will be Allemand Left or Lead Right
- If the caller calls to the other couple (e.g. Sides if you are heads) Reverse Wheel Around another full turn to use up time
- If just past home
- Raise an arch and let everyone else Promenade under while the two of you back up to home
- Reverse Wheel Around in a huge arcing path that takes you out of the square back to home
- Swing and Promenade home
- Continue to swing multiple times around with your partner while progressing toward home (be extra careful not to injure anyone and also not to hold up folks behind you!)
- Celebrate successful completion of the last sequence
- Turn 1/4 to face your partner and clap free hands (one clap) then face back in and bump hips
- Turn 1/4 to face partner, patty cake your two hands with partners two hands (one clap), clap your own hands together (one clap) while facing in, then bump hips with partner
Thank your square variations
- National 'proper': Join hands, bow inward, lowering hands then back out, raising hands while saying "Thaaaaank YOU!"
- National 'friendly': Put Arms around (hug) the backs of your corner and partner, bow inward and back out while saying "Thaaaaank YOU!"
- Gay standard: Place R wrist over L wrist at waist level with R palm down, L palm up, join hands with partner and corner, bow, then turn out under the arm arch while saying "Thaaaaank YOU!"
- Gay SoCA: same as above, but afterwards, reverse and turn back in under the same arch to end facing in saying "very much!" Hug everybody.
The origin of this is the Japanese dancers, one of whom visited the See-Me Squares about a month ago. At this point, I don't know if it will catch on and stick, but I think there's a good chance that it will. -- Paul Waters 9/24/98
- Karla: Put both hands palms down toward the center (aim low at a spot on the floor) and wiggle your hands up and down "shake hands"
- Sweden: With R hand, point at the floor in the center (R shoulder in), then all together raise hands up and at the very end, flip wrist up (index finger points straight up) while saying "Thaaaaank YOU!"
